Installation
1. Inspect your order carefully. DarBodé is not responsible for material that has been cut or installed. Handle the tiles with attention, be careful not to damage the finished surface or corners of the tiles.
2. Store the tiles in a dry area.
3. Cement tile may have residue on the surface. It is recommended to clean the tiles, front and back, to remove concrete dust residue and enable proper adhesion. It is essential that the surface of the tile is level, clean, and perfectly dry.
5.Install over flat, level and stable surface if needed use a primer to ensure adherence. The underground on which the tiles will be installed have to be completely dry for installation.
6. As a handmade product this results in small variations of colour. Shuffle tiles from different boxes before installation, this to achieve a uniform colour variation of the final installation.
7. Work in small areas at a time so that the tiles can be cleaned properly as they are installed. Patterns look best with small grout joints (about 1 mm), although a grout joint of 3mm is recommended for tiles laid over radiant heat.
8.Use a thin-set high quality mortar, apply the mortar to the substrate as well as to the back of the tile.Follow manufacturer's instructions. Do not use a hammer, even a rubber hammer, but gently pressed into place by hand.
9. Remove any excess mortar from the surface with a sponge using clean water while it is fresh.
10. Tiles should be cut with a tile cutting machine using a diamond blade with water.
11. Sealing should be applied to clean tiles with an impregnating or penetrating sealer for natural stone during installation before grouting.Only non-acidic cleaning products should be used. Use sealer according to the manufacturer instructions.
12. Tiles should be allowed to set for 24 hours before applying grout to the joints with a trowel or sponge.Use non-pigmented, flexible, cementitious grout. Carefully clean the surface of the tile as they are grouted to keep the grout from setting in the tiles’ porous surface. Work in small areas, remove any excess grout immediately. If any cement residue remains on the face of the tile, a Scotch-Brite pad or fine-grained sandpaper can be used to gently remove the residue.
13. Once the tiles have been grouted and properly cleaned, leave them until completely dry. Apply 1 more coat of sealant. The sealant will oil and waterproof the tile. Please follow the manufacturer instructions.
how to take care?
With age, use and cleaning your cement tiles will have a lovely patina that gives the tile its character and uniqueness.
The tiles should be regularly maintained with mild soap and water, the surface can be cleaned with products that are suitable for use on natural stone. Never use bleach or acidic cleaning products, it will etch the tiles. If you use a new product, we advise you to test it first on a discrete tile area. Depending on the desired result you can add an extra sealant layer or wax. However we advise you to maintain your tiles every 5 years with an extra coat of sealant.
Spills should be cleaned up in time to prevent a stain. Stains that stay, even after different cleanings can be cleaned with an extra fine sandpaper and water, once cleaned the area should be resealed.
small stains will diminish with time and maintenance.
